Beyond pure network authentication

The advent of LTE is a far-reaching change for the entire mobile ecosystem that will impact devices, mobile networks, and SIM cards. In the IP-based world of LTE, the SIM (the commonly used name for the UICC – Universal Integrated Chip Card) will continue to be the mandatory element for authentication of users in mobile networks, just like SIM cards were in GSM networks. It will also identify users in older networks such as GPRS, whenever LTE is not available.

The fusion between mobile services, NFC services and Internet services gives rise to a need for a secure global mobile identity that can be provided by SIM-based solutions.

Platforms for UICCs

SkySIM is a Java card platform that can be flexibly adapted to the individual requirements of network operators regardless of their mobile network. To further maximize the benefits for customers, G&D has developed the new operating system SkySIM CX – a highly configurable and easily extendable high-end Java-based platform. SkySIM CX enables new product technologies such as NFC, Smartcard Web Server (SCWS), and high-speed USB interfaces.
